Nancy Alvarado | I am excited about joining the Unit 361 Board because I love tournament bridge and would like to help those working to keep the Denver bridge community thriving. In my bridge career, I started as a total beginner in 2013 and worked my way up to Silver LM in 10 years. After retiring from my job as a Professor of Experimental Psychology at Cal Poly Pomona, I was a Club Manager and Director in Riverside, CA. I was not a board member (conflict of interest) but I volunteered in various ways, doing partnership at our sectional, helping with hospitality at the Riverside Regional, as an ACBL certified teacher, and writing the Unit 537 monthly District 22 newsletter column. I transferred our club games to BBO during covid by setting up and directing a virtual club. When face-to-face bridge returned in 2021, I moved to CO (to be closer to family). Now, my bridge goal is to play more, travel and visit tournaments, so I am very happy that bridge is coming back strong in Denver. I appreciate how welcoming people have been to me over the past two years and have enjoyed making new friends. I think bridge is fun, but even more fun if I can be involved behind the scenes, so I want to help. |
Don Boyarsky | I have served on the board twice since the mid-nineties and served as Regional co-chair for the last two years. I have served as Supply Chair, Sectional Tournament Chair, 299er Chair and Vice President in the past. I have played Bridge in Denver for 30+ years and am recently retired. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the Unit board again. |
Jay Silberberg | I started playing bridge in college (self-taught from Goren’s book) and continued for a while after moving to Colorado almost fifty years ago. Then I took a long break to raise our daughters. I started back playing duplicate bridge 20 years ago. While I always played in tournaments along the Front Range, I began to travel to tournaments starting with the Austin NABC. I finally (ask my wife) retired August 2022 after 39 years as a finance and accounting manager. As I started playing at clubs again this year, I really enjoyed seeing everyone again at the table and playing with a lot of new partners at a lot of different experience levels. And that spurred me to want to serve our local bridge community by joining the Unit Board. I’m particularly interested in supporting newer players and encouraging them to continue to play this great game. Besides bridge, my wife and I are beginning to travel more, and our five grandkids in town keep us busy. |
Kevin Stansbury | My parents taught me bridge back in high school, but then college, family, and work got in the way for many years while I moved around the country on different mineral and metal processing sites. However, when I moved back to Denver, I wanted something that my father and I could do together, so we started playing duplicate bridge together. Playing with my father has always been a joy and will continue to be, win or lose, as long as we can be together at the table. I’ve enjoyed helping the local bridge community by picking up chairs and tables at the sectionals and regionals, and even assisting to teach some brand-new players from the start of my time going to bridge tournaments. My father worked several years on the board and I helped him when I could, and when he left the board, I was planning to fill in. However, travel with work and some other commitments always interfered. A little over a year ago, I was asked to join the board and agreed to take the plunge into working on the unit board. I was welcomed as part of the bridge support community and have continued doing what I can to help grow bridge in the Denver area. The tasks that I can do are limited due to my work commitments, but the board has worked together to continue to put on solid events and I appreciate the opportunity to continue to work together to help the Denver bridge community. |
Ed Yosses | I have had continuous ACBL membership since 1975, reflecting a long-term commitment to the League and to our game. I served as Treasurer from 2006-2013 and as President in 2014 of the Northern Colorado Unit. I was the Treasurer of District 17 in 2016 and am currently Treasurer of the Denver Unit. I drafted and revised By-Laws of the Northern Colorado Unit, assisted revising the By-Laws for District 17 and assisted in revising the By-Laws for the Denver Unit. I incorporated the Northern Colorado Unit into a nonprofit corporation under Colorado law. I practiced law for 38+ years, primarily as a municipal attorney (for Toledo, OH and Longmont, CO.) I have BA and JD degrees from the University of Toledo. I am particularly interested in protecting and advancing the fiscal health of our Unit, growing tournament attendance, and assisting newer players to learn our great game. |
